Building a foundation of HDSLR video by learning more about photography.
I am excited have Steven Davis who is an awesome landscape photographer on the show this week.
I know I am taking a little departure from video, but I bought this camera because I can take great pictures and video in one device so I am sure a lot of others did the same. And by improving your photography you are also improving your video as well.
Steven can be found on Flickr, Facebook as well as Twitter.
Check it out below, I think this podcast turned out great! I know I learn a lot more about taking better landscape photos with my T2i 550D.

Here are the questions I asked Steven.
What is your background with photography and video? Do you mac or PC? Are you a Lightroom user or aperture?
Some of your landscape photos look amazing, are they HDR or non HDR
photos? How do you get that smooth looking water on a lot of your
pictures. Do you shoot mostly in shutter speed priority?
What mode do you normally shoot with and why? (aperture priority) When shooting landscapes what aperture do you use?
I’m still trying to figure out exposure. A lot of the times when I
think I have the image right on the back of the screen it looks great
but when I pull it up in Lightroom it is not what I thought. This also
goes for video. Can you explain how you go about setting up your
camera for the right exposure on your shots?
How to read a histogram?
Which metering mode do you use most often on your portraits? Do you
use a gray card?
On my point and shoot it is easy to turn on the camera flash for a
little fill light, when I am in an easy mode like portrait how do I
turn on the flash if it doesn’t think I need it?
Backward engineer shots from Flickr?
Camera strap?

Thanks for the interview Dave. It was a fun experience. Keep doing what you’re doing!
Man, I sound goofy. Haha. Good times. I should probably add, I’ve learned a LOT of what I know from workshops with Stephen Oachs and Brian Rueb at http://www.apertureacademy.com. Pricey, but you learn a lot in a short amount of time.
I also forgot to mention the Book you talked about:
Understanding Exposure: How to Shoot Great Photographs with a Film or Digital Camera (Updated Edition) (Paperback)
How much did u pay for the raw files.
@Nathan, I am not sure I understand the question. Is it something we talked about in the podcast?
Maybe…the question about prices could be when you described paying a photographer you hired to take pictures of you on the beach and you didn’t ask about prints but you wanted to merely buy the raw files? I’m just saying…I’m not the original poster although I wondered the same thing…but just didn’t want to ask…all in your financial business up on the internet and thangs…
