Podcast Episode 3 with Matt S

Fellow hobbyist Matt S. joins me on the my show. You will find Matt is obsessed with DSLR as much as pros are.

Check out the podcast below with Matt S. from Vimeo. Check out Matt’s blog ShootingLeaves and he can also be found on Matt Films on Vimeo as well.

The podcast should now be available on ITunes for download if you don’t want to listen to it here.

It was fun to talk with Matt for about an hour via Skype.

He actually used one of his Rode microphones for the Skype call which I thought was pretty cool. His mic sounded a lot better than my USB headset.

If have not already you should check out some of Matt’s videos on Vimeo, they are really good for a person that does not do this professionally.

Here are the questions I asked him.

- What is your background with video? Are you doing anything professionally or are you mostly a hobbyist?

- What type of camera do you use? Mac or PC and which NLE do you use?

- You did a really nice in depth comparison of the two Canon 50mm primes, the 1.4 and the 1.8. That video really helped me decide which lens to get. For those who have not watched it, can you give the high points from the comparison?

- How do you prepare your 7D footage before beginning it in to your NLE?

- I noticed you use Kevin MacLeod’s music a lot on your videos. For those who do not who he is can you describe why he is so unique (ie. he gives it away free) and how you go about finding the right music to use on his site.

- What lens do you use on vacation when you take just one lens?

- What is the difference between color correction and color grading?

- You have a couple of nice videos of your Glide cam. What have you learned from using it so far? Also for those who don’t know what a glide cam does can you explain that and also explain the difference trying to get that same shot by just hand holding the DSLR?

- I think your best shot by far is when you filmed it snowing on this tree with no leaves and then fade into the same tree in the spring with buds – how was that done?
